Es fühlt sich wie ein ferner Traum an. Jene Nacht im Februar vergangenen Jahres, in der wir uns alle zum letzten Mal trafen, ohne zu ahnen, für wie lange sich unsere Wege trennen werden.

19 lange Monate später und wir können es kaum glauben euch mitzuteilen: Wir sind wieder hier! Endlich können wir euch wieder in unserem geliebten KitKat begrüßen.

Wie ihr wisst, ging alles sehr schnell. Ein Gerichtsurteil, gefolgt von der vernünftigen Einsicht, dass das, was für den einen Club gut ist, auch für alle anderen gut genug sein sollte. Um eine lange Geschichte ganz kurz zu machen:
Diesen Freitag ist das Four Play wieder für geimpfte oder genesene Gäste, mit den entsprechenden Zertifikaten, geöffnet. Ein negativer Schnelltest wird zusätzlich verlangt – entweder bringt ihr ein Testergebnis mit, oder ihr könnt euch vor Ort im KitKat testen lassen.
Der Preis: eine richtige Party. So wie es war, so wie es sein sollte.

Wie immer werden wir versuchen, die Räume und deine Zeit mit uns mit den interessantesten, frechsten und kreativsten Inhalten zu füllen – ob musikalisch oder interaktiv. Weitere Details zum Programm werden in Kürze folgen.

It all feels like a distant dream. That night in February of the previous year, in which we all met for the final time, without knowing for how long our ways will part.

19 months later, and here we are again, can hardly believe: this Friday, we can finally welcome you again in our beloved Kitkat.

As you know, it all happened very fast. A court decision, followed by the reasonable comprehension, that what’s good for one club, should be good enough for all others. To make a long story quite short:
This Friday, the Four Play is back for vaccinated or recovered guests, with the relevant certificates. A negative Covid19 test will be additionally required.
The prize: a real party. Just like it was, just like it should be.

As always, we will try to fill the spaces and your time with us with the most interesting, bold and creative content – whether musical or interactive. More details about the program will follow shortly.

Zu dem Zeitpunkt, an dem wir diesen Text schreiben, fühlt es sich fast wie ein entfernter Traum an. Viele Monate sind seit unserer letzten Expedition vergangen, und das, was wir für selbstverständlich genommen haben, ist nun das, wonach wir uns sehnen.

Als die Pandemie ausbrach, gewöhnte sich unsere Crew recht schnell an die Situation und begrüßte vielleicht sogar eine dringend benötigte Pause. Doch mit jedem verlorenen Wochenende, mit jedem spitzenlosen Monat haben auch wir angefangen, dieses alte Jucken zu spüren. Dieses Gefühl verstärkte sich in letzter Zeit immer mehr, parallel zur späten Ankunft des Sommers und dem drastischen Rückgang der Corona-Infektionen. Endlich, mit einer gesunden Portion vorsichtigem Optimismus, sind wir in der Lage, eine neue Expedition zu planen.

Anders als unsere wilden, unvergesslichen Nächte zusammen, wird diese Expedition anders sein. Als Teil der :// about blank’s Sektgarten Reihe wird unsere Expedition tagsüber stattfinden, an einem (hoffentlich) sonnigen Sonntag des Spätsommers. Dies, und nicht nur dies, hat uns natürlich dazu veranlasst, einige Anpassungen an unserer typischen musikalischen Kuration bei den Expeditionen zu überlegen. Mit dem Verständnis, dass wir alle in den letzten anderthalb Jahren ein wenig zu viel Dunkelheit und Düsternis ertragen mussten, haben wir uns entschieden, Techno dieses Mal beiseite zu lassen. Stattdessen hofften wir, ein Programm zu schaffen, das genauso inspirierend, aber optimistischer und bunter ist als das, was Techno normalerweise bietet. Wir haben uns entschieden, diese Expedition der treibenden House-Musik mit vielen ethnischen Elementen zu widmen, mit einem Fokus auf das aufstrebende Subgenre Afro House.

Zu diesem Zweck haben wir ein extrem vielfältiges Lineup zusammengestellt. Es ist so vielfältig und jede:r DJ hat einen so einzigartigen Stil, dass wir empfehlen, von Anfang an dabei zu sein und zu bleiben, bis der letzte Akkord gespielt wurde.

At the time we write this text, it almost feels like a distant dream. Many months have passed since our previous Expedition, and that we used to take for granted, is what ended up yearning for.

When the pandemic broke out, our crew got used to the situation quite fast, and perhaps even welcomed a much-needed pause. However, with every hollow weekend that went by, with every peakless month, we too, started feeling that same old itch. This feeling kept intensifying lately, parallel to the late arrival of the summer and the drastic decrease in the Corona infections.Finally, with a healthy portion of careful optimism, we are able to plan a new Expedition.

Unlike our wild, unforgettable nights together, this Expedition will be different. As part of :// about blank’s Sektgarten series, our Expedition will take place during the day, on a (hopefully) sunny Sunday of late summer. This, and not just this, obviously made us consider some amendments to our typical musical curation at the Expeditions.

Understanding that we all had to endure just a little too much darkness and gloom in the past year and a half, we decided to leave Techno aside this time. Instead, we hoped to create a program that is just as energizing, yet, more optimist and colorful than what Techno normally offers. We decided to dedicate this Expedition to impellent House music with lots of ethnic elements, and with a focus on the rising sub-genre of Afro House.

For this purpose, we put together an extremely diversified Lineup. It is so diversified and each DJ has such a unique style, that we highly recommend being there from the very beginning and remaining until the very last chord was played.

The duo show A bird in the grass is worth a thousand hearts sees Retramp re-vamped into a laboratory of play and possibility in a reunion during Berlin Art Week. Caitlin Hespe and Ida Lawrence are two artists who have been working apart from each other (most recently in Budapest and Berlin, respectively), though also in close contact. Through telepathic communication (or just regular phone contact, we cannot be sure) motifs merge and collide, and thematic encounters occur. In her drawings and paintings, Caitlin Hespe pairs images in surprising combinations through a new logic and sensibility. She makes leaps and links between associations and language, and plays with the page as a space of illusions. Ida Lawrence’s canvases tell stories of mishaps, (mis)understanding and (dis)connection. Set between Germany, Indonesia and Australia — her homes at different times — her narrative paintings reflect recent observations, delve into distant memories, and chart her attempts to make sense of the world.
The title of the exhibition A bird in the grass is worth a thousand hearts is a conflation of (at least) four English language proverbs, each representing a sentiment or lesson for a specific moment. One values that which is close in the present, another that absence can grow desire, one says things in the distance are seen with a skewed perspective, another that images and words can not really equate. Holding each of these ‘wisdoms’ could be confusing, maybe nonsensical, or perhaps the confused proverb is a wisdom in itself?
In the same way, this exhibition developed in situ connects threads of the artists’ thoughts, anecdotes, messages and mark-making sensibility into a new conversation within the gallery space.

Enter your own homemade hot sauce in our second annual “Berlin’s best Homemade Hot Sauce Competition” at the Berlin Chili Festival, judged by our own panel of expert Hot sauce makers & chefs with an audience vote on the festival day.

How to enter:

We are accepting hot sauce entries in the days before the main event, you can drop off your entry at Kookaburra Comedy Club at the following times :

Wed 22nd September 2021
Thurs 23rd September 2021
Fri 24th September 2021

Between 5pm – 9pm

(if you can’t make those times, please let me know and we will work something out, you are welcome to have somebody else drop your entry off)

Just bring your hot sauce in some sort of clean container, please clearly mark the container with your name and phone number (please read the rules below about clean containers).

On a separate paper with your name and phone number clearly marked at the top, please submit a weighted ingredient list for the sauce. The ingredient with the highest percentage by weight should appear first, the ingredient with the lowest percentage should appear last. If possible please list the type of chili used and what percentage is used.

The first round of Judging by our experts will take place on Saturday 25th September in private, where our judges will narrow it down to the top 10 best sauces.

The final competition will be by audience vote on the day of the festival, all sauces will be tasted blind, and everyone attending the festival will be asked to pick their top 3 sauces on a voting form, the sauce with the highest vote wins.

How it is judged :

Our experts will be marking the sauce out of 10 in five categories:

– Aroma / nose
– Use of chilis/heat profile*
– Flavour / palate
– Creativity / individuality / memorability
– Finish / aftertaste / afterburn

*hotter does not mean a higher score, we are looking for a well-balanced hot sauce.

the sauces will be tasted blind at first, and then the judges will get a chance to see the list of ingredients before their final decisions, Judges will not know the name of the maker of each sauce.

The audience vote on the day will be in a blind taste test in numbered uniform containers, so nobody knows who sauce is whos.

The winners will be announced at the end of the Berlin Chili Festival on Sunday 26th September at 9pm.

Rules:

1. you must have made the hot sauce yourself! Family recipes etc. are allowed.
2. Non-commercial sauces only.
3. Sauces should be prepared hygienically. Please research hot filling/canning processes before preparation. If it is a fermented sauce please indicate this on the ingredient list. Sauces that look or smell unsafe to eat will not be judged.

4. One entry per person, please!
5. our decisions are final
6. we may tweak the rules as we see fit, to keep everything fair

Prizes:

Win a certificate signed by the judges, Trophy & ultimate glory, your chance to defend your title next year, plus a chili festival hamper containing a heap of goodies from the festival. (to be honest, I’m still thinking about this bit)

Dave Adams is an Australian Composer, Pianist, Vocalist, Capricorn, Comedian living in Berlin.

He identifies as “strong Carrie vibes”, and a “classic Gryffindor”.

Dave got in to standup by going to an open mic night in Berlin, and seeing one comedian after the other bomb horrifically. He thought, “If I can just get up there and not be the worst comedian of the night, I’ll consider that on some level a success.”

He signed up for next weeks show and was by far, undeniably the worst comedian to ever do that show.

Since then he has hosted some of the best and funnest comedy shows in the city, including ‘The Real Show’ every Tuesday at Space Meduza.

He has been opening act for Allan Havey (Seinfeld/Mad Men) and was a writer for Comedy Central’s – “Was ich eigentlich sagen wollte.” And he doesn’t even speak German. Not bad right?

This is my first solo show and I’m very excited to show you what I’ve been working on over the last few years! I’ll be playing piano, singing funny songs and telling some of my silly jokes! Typical Capricorn stuff.

Tickets 10e – Doors at 8pm, show at 8:30. Bring a Neg Test/Vax slip on the night!
