Stockholm-based drummer/percussionist Andreas Axelsson is active in a variety of musical settings where improvisation is a common thread. Some current groups are the free improvising trio AAM with pianist Arne Forsén and bassist Mats Dimming, and a sextet led by composer and reedist Niklas Persson which straddle the line between free jazz and post-bop. The sextet´s album “Kampen” was released in 2023. As well as a longstanding and intermittent collaboration with pianist Lisa Ullén in a quartet which also consists of trombonist Mats Äleklint and bassist Nils Ölmedal. The group has released three albums to glowing reviews. Andreas has also been involved in projects involving dance, electroacoustic music and avant/experimental rock. As a member of various constellations, he has performed in Scandinavia, Central- & Eastern Europe, and appears on recordings released by labels in England, France, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Norway, Denmark and his native Sweden. “Andreas Axelsson´s superb splatter of percussion brings to mind the obvious example of a closet being cleaned out.” Allmusic.com
