We’re happy to report that Berlin’s stand-up comedy scene in English is bursting at all funny seams! Wow!

With a record number of more than 100 up-and-coming comedians taking part, this year’s Berlin New Stand-Up Award is going to really be the fiercest, funniest and exciting competition so far! Come watch the finest fresh new faces from all around Germany work their guts out for the promise of eternal glory, monumental fame and 1000 EUR!

You, the audience, have the power! You decide which top 2 contestants made you laugh the hardest and will go through to the semi-finals!

Gauri B (IND)

Gauri B is an up and coming standup comedian with a devilish sense of humour who has performed to sold out audiences in New York, London, Berlin and major cities across Europe. Her inner child is an old man who fought in the war. There is no other explanation to why she is so angry and grumpy all the time.
Gauri fearlessly tackles taboo topics that sometimes offend racist, sexist, homophobic audiences which is her big motivation to keep doing so. Her material dives deep into the experiences of marginalized bodies and is a satirical commentary on current cultural, societal and political scenarios infused with hilarious personal anecdotes. Her act is a statement of defiance, rebellion and the spirit of “zero f###s to give”
She has succeeded in hosting one of the most popular comedy nights in Berlin, showcasing a diverse lineup of comedians. A middle finger to society, the night is aptly titled Hoes of Berlin. A safe space for us all.

Ben MacLean (CAN)

Ben MacLean is a Canadian performer based in Berlin.

Originally from Nova Scotia in the Atlantic Provinces, Ben is celebrating fourteen years of terrorizing Germans with his rural Canadian friendliness, and six years of hosting and performing standup.

The world’s only diplomat turned comedian, his one-of-a-kind LinkedIn profile also includes stints as a gay fetish model and flight attendant. Add to this the reality TV-like experience of growing up the youngest of seven, and he’s been blessed with lots of material.

In addition to doing shows in L.A., Cape Town and Tokyo, he was a semifinalist in the U.K.’s prestigious “So You Think You’re Funny?” competition. You might also know him from Go West Comedy, Schöneberg’s longest-running English comedy showcase, which he launched.

If you recognize Ben from some of his “non-comedy” content online, that’s something he’ll neither confirm nor deny.
