Agent Mark (Sam Neill) handles various discreet matters for the government, which often take him to faraway places for a few days with a suitcase full of money. When he returns from an assignment one day, his wife Anna (Isabelle Adjani) asks him for a divorce without giving any reason. Although Mark would rather save the marriage, he agrees to the divorce and gives Anna custody of their son Bob (Michael Hogben) and the apartment. But he can’t let go. He develops a longing for her that soon turns into an obsession. When he goes to Anna’s apartment, he only finds her neglected son. He eventually learns from one of Anna’s friends that she has been behaving strangely for a long time and is often missing for periods of time. Gradually, Mark realizes that something is very wrong with Anna…
