ERRINERUNGSKÖRPER – The body as a memory keeper
April 19 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm CEST
FreeSomoS is excited to present “Erinnerungskörper,” an immersive exhibition by German-Canadian mixed-media artist Gabriela Hirt that expands the 2D plane of painting. Her solo show aims to transcend traditional boundaries, blending visual art, dance, and poetry to explore colonialism’s lasting scars and the quest for connection amidst inherited trauma.
Through dynamic collaborations, including performances by Berlin-based dancers Marie Elise Hufnagel and Tabea Antonacci and poetry by Wiradjuri writer Alison J. Barton, Hirt’s work navigates the complexities of identity, memory, and societal divides. “Erinnerungskörper” confronts the viewer with the embodied legacies of history, urging a reflective journey into the depths of collective and individual consciousness
In this exhibition, SomoS reaffirms its commitment to fostering dialogues that challenge, heal, and inspire, echoing the profound quest for connection in an increasingly fragmented world.
Opening reception: Tuesday, March 19, 6 -9 pm with a Contemporary Dance performance by Tabea Antonacci and Marie Elise Hufnagel
