‘Pure Donzin’ is the debut album by Amsterdam-based Donald “Donny” Madjid – also a member of The Mauskovic Dance Band. On a pandemic-induced break, Donny, armed with a 60’s drum machine and a few synths, started experimenting with new sounds. He recorded an album under the artist monicker ‘Don Melody Club’ that honours the literary and musical tradition of the Netherlands, covering Dutch troubadour Ramses Shaffy. His intimate music also recalls Dutch New Wave legends Doe Maar – merging earworm pop hooks and infectious, danceable beats to otherwise pensive ballads.
