Hošek Contemporary is pleased to invite you to ‘exorcism // exorcisme’, a performance and interactive sound installation by Valerie Renay and Christy Langer, winners of the 3rd Hošek Contemporary Prize 2024.

Over Gallery Weekend Berlin, Hošek Contemporary becomes a depository for secrets, a drop-off centre of hidden truths. The collaborative project exorcism // exorcisme from Valerie Renay and Christy Langer offers an immersive experience and highlights the energetic load of communication. An analogue surround soundscape is composed of collected secrets and combined with an interactive installation, while the gallery space is transformed into an altar of the confidant. Visitors are invited to play an active role and add to the series by leaving their own secrets into the mix. Three performances will take place during the opening weekend, where guided by rituals of intimate confessions, everyone is free to participate.
Through performance and installation, both artists have developed practices that immerse the attention of the viewer. The foundation of exorcism // exorcisme is to harness that engagement into a collective creative process by sharing secrets. By participating or simply through active listening, one becomes a co-creator of this space.
“It was essential for us to create an inclusive space that breaks the boundaries of inhibition, free from concepts of self-accusation. The walls are down in the floating sea of secrets. When visiting the installation, one should feel the healing agent of communication – people are offered an experience to take away, play, and also hopefully, to leave something, a burden perhaps, behind.”

After Gallery Weekend Berlin, the installation will be on view during Hošek’s normal opening hours Tue-Sat 12-7 PM and during the events of the gallery (www.hosekcontemporary.com/events)
