SUMMARY:solo performance by Christina Kyriazidi
DESCRIPTION:is a dance-theatre stage composition (solo performance)\, the third collaboration between the Greek poet and performer Christina Kyriazidi and the Icelandic composer Smári Gudmundson.\nIt revolves around a female figure in a frantic mental\, physical\, and verbal rampage. An anonymous woman from whose body memories of other women emerge: a woman refugee in a foreign land\, Antigone walking to her earthen tomb\, Medea contemplating her unspeakable crime\, Phaedra and the desperate lover of Jean Cocteau’s “Human Voice”. The invisible thread that connects these women is WOMAN’s relation with love\, power\, and death.\nThe heroine clashes with the memories she carries\, memories that belong to her space-time\, and others that emerge despite herself from the landscapes of the female collective unconscious. She is constantly changing voices and languages\, uttering sounds\, singing\, and narrating. The dramaturgy progresses with leaps of associations\, as words come out of her in a non-linear way\, and only fragments of different stories survive. Her struggle is internal and transcends her biography to become universal.\nis a tragic dizzying dance\, a plunge into the heroine’s subconscious\, oscillating between sanity and madness\, between memory and oblivion\, between life and death. A woman\, without a specific name\, who carries all the voices and all the female archetypes. From the silence of oblivion to the cry of assertion\, primordial female forms within the body of a random woman\, countless cracks revealing axles of different conflicts. A performance about the light and darkness of the female soul.\nThe stage composition combines theatre\, dance\, and music. It is based on the poetry of Christina Kyriazidi\, with additional references to Jean Cocteau’s “Human Voice”\, and the characters of Antigone\, Phaedra\, and Medea from different authors (Sophocles\, Euripides\, Jean Anouilh\, G. Ritsos\, Heiner Müller). It includes original music by Smári Gudmundson.\n› The performance is mainly in Greek\, including Spanish\, French\, and German\, and it comes with English over titles.\n𝟭𝟵 & 𝟮𝟬 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 | 𝟮𝟬𝗵 | 𝗔𝗖𝗨𝗗 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿\nPoetry / Direction / Performance: Christina Kyriazidi\nMusic: Smári Gudmundsson\nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc8BOYnbhFU\nMADE ITS WORLD PREMIERE IN NYC (THEATERLAB & THE TANK – A Home For Emerging Artists) IN SEPTEMBER 2024 AND IT WAS ALSO PRESENTED IN ATHENS (DanceTheatre ROES) BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2024 – JANUARY 2025.\n🎫 https://www.acud-theater.de/ticketing.php?eventid=5583&timestamp=1742410800\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/2007618733078663/

SUMMARY:TALK: Exhibition Ecologies
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, there has been a significant increase in research both in exhibition studies and in environmental humanities\, particularly at the intersection of art and ecology. However\, a cohesive interdisciplinary field combining these two areas has yet to be fully established.\nThe Working Group “Exhibition Ecologies” was founded in 2024 with the aim of examining exhibitions through the lens of ecological perspectives and to create an international research network of scholars dedicated to this topic. The group responds to the urgent need for developing suitable methodologies and theories to address the intricate intersection of exhibitions and ecologies\, focusing on aesthetics\, epistemologies\, infrastructures\, and ideologies. The members and critical friends convene for this purpose to a second work meeting in Berlin in 2025.\nTwo public lectures will take place in the context of the workshop:\nThursday\, 27. February: Dr. Hannah Baader (Kunsthistorisches Institut Florenz)\nFreie Universität Berlin\nEXC 2020 „Temporal Communities“\nRoom 00.07\nOtto-von-Simson-Straße 15\n14195 Berlin\nFriday\, 28. February: Prof. Dr. Shannon Jackson (University of California\, Berkeley)\nKünstlerhaus Bethanien\nLibrary\nKohlfurter Straße 41-43\nLichtfabrik\n10999 Berlin\nOrganized by Mateo Chacón Pino (Universität Kassel/documenta Institut) and Friederike Schäfer (Freie Universität Berlin/Exzellenzcluster Temporal Communities).\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1566985784703868/

SUMMARY:Tiny Noise Vol.V
DESCRIPTION:28th February\n7pm\n@tiny.noise Vol.V is coming soon with two acts of sonic chaos:\n@cate0hops\, researcher of bass-heavy underground music and experimental electronics and the enigmatic electronic alchemist Martin Howse @microresearchxx will be play the raw power of sound.\nJoin us to another evening of noise and experimental electronics that will push the boundaries of your auditory experience.\nDoor open at 7pm\nwienerstrasse 36\, 10999 kreuzberg Berlin\nEntrance by donation\n@Cate0hops\nCultural activist with a feminist approach dedicated to bass heavy underground music and experimental electronics.\nShe seamlessly shifts between scenes and genres\, drawing from a foundation in roots and dub\, progressing through UK bass-related sounds and techno\, and venturing into experimental forms of contemporary electronic and electro-acoustic music. As a live performer\, she explores the realm of noise improvisation.\nWith her ongoing project\, “Sound System Culture: On the Radical Roots of Rave\,” she initiates events that actively engage the audience. Her radio show provides a platform for dialogue and discovery\, inviting guests from her network to share their musical perspectives and favorite tracks.\nEugenia is Co-founder of the Fem*noise network and currently a PhD candidate at the DFG Emmy Noether Research Group “Sound System Epistemologies: Knowledge Engendered Through Practice”\n@microresearchxx\nMartin Howse is occupied with an investigation of the links between the earth (geological and geophysical phenomena)\, software and the a/human psyche (psychogeophysics) through the construction of experimental situations (performance\, laboratories\, walks\, and workshops)\, material art works\, instruments\, fictions\, texts and software.\nOrphans and voids remains as a headless divination for obscure Eurorack assemblages (ERD/TOAD\, FUSE\, caput draconis and all the colours of the noise)\, for scattered concrete modules\, including dismembered macros\, abandoned ergotic pyrotechnics\, printed circuit incense clocks\, micro-pulsed laser\, dusty smoking CPUs\, and ill programmed\, ill abstracted\, ill simulated neurons.\nThe orphans are the last two Earth Branches (xu and hai)\, the two that remain after the Ten Stems are combined with the first ten branches. The voids are their two opposites plotted on a circle: the stems chen and si.\nThe only place where the two systems link is at the hole in the centre\, which means that they link in a nowhere\, or in a hole. This mysterious hole between the two worlds is in a one-sided way also represented in the Chinese incense clock.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1304138994025235/

SUMMARY:Opening Ayoung Kim. Many Worlds Over
DESCRIPTION:Ayoung Kim’s (b. 1979 in Seoul\, Korea) first solo exhibition in a German museum spans over the past five years of her artistic practice.\nAdmission to the events is free. Registration not required.\nUsing Artificial Intelligence\, Virtual Reality\, video\, game simulations\, sculpture\, and sonic fiction\, Ayoung Kim creates expansive fictional universes with their own temporal and spatial laws. Her works are often linked together by speculative narratives that are still connected to the actual world that we live in and the viewers themselves are transformed into spectators as well as first person players\, controlling the narrative from their own point of view.\nHer subjects are humans\, characters\, mythological beings and virtual entities who cross the boundaries between different possible realities\, making possible and impossible worlds collide across different times and spaces. Ayoung Kim’s exhibition at Hamburger Bahnhof explores themes like migration\, xenophobia\, queerness\, and geopolitics and looks closely at the symbiosis between data\, humans\, and the planet.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/950066980042012/

SUMMARY:CRONENBERG'S GARDEN - exhibition feat. Emeli Theander & Aline Schwörer at SomoS
DESCRIPTION:SomoS Arts\, in collaboration with Curator-in-Residence Lindsay Inglis\, is pleased to announce the exhibition Croneberg’s Garden\, featuring the works of visual artists Emeli Theander and Aline Schwörer.\nAbout the Exhibition:\nThrough the visual dialogue of sculpture and painting\, the exhibition explores the changing relationship between humanity and the natural world. Building upon the themes such as human body fascination\, physical transformation\, technology\, surrealism\, and obscurity present in the artistic work of Canadian director David Cronenberg\, the exhibition examines the complexities of the body’s relationship with the environment.\nTheander’s paintings conjure dreamlike landscapes in which figures blend into their surroundings\, dissolving the boundaries between the individual and the external world. In contrast\, Schwörer’s sculptures evoke artifacts of an imagined future that visualize the Anthropocene\, where human actions have led to the disappearance of traditional ecosystems.\nEvent Details:\nOpening reception: Tuesday\, February 25\, 2025 6 – 9 p.m.\nExhibition duration: Wednesday\, February 26\, 2025 – Saturday\, March 8\, 2025\, 2- 7 p.m.\, Tuesday-Saturday\, or by appointment\nFree entry\nLocation: SomoS – Kotbusser Damm 95\, 1.0G\, 10967 Berlin\nU8 – Schönleinstraße\n🔗 More info: https://somos.media/-u\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/3472949623012540/

SUMMARY:Offene Ausstellung: »Masses« von Ed Atkins
DESCRIPTION:In the Rangfoyer of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.\nAdmission is free. \nEd Atkins is attracted to the costumes from the Deutsche Oper Berlin’s collection in a special way: the masses of different fabrics in their dense array on sober clothes rails are like a compressed storehouse of stories and memories. Each individual item of clothing would tell its own story if it were taken down from the rack: about the opera in which it was used\, about the people who wore it and about the dreams that it triggers in everyone who looks at it. For him\, this analogue part of his installation forms the counterpart to his video installations\, which stage fragments of stories from today’s flood of digital media images\, some bizarre\, some disturbing. This tension between costumes\, opera stories and current films forms the narrative core of Ed Atkins‘ work as a visual and narrative artist – he is also a contributor to the libretto of Rebecca Saunders’ world premiere of LASH on 20 June 2025 on the stage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. \nEd Atkins is one of the most versatile British artists of his generation and has attracted international attention as a visual artist\, author and filmmaker. Ed Atkins lives and works in Copenhagen. Recent institutional solo exhibitions include ‘Refuse’ at Tank\, Shanghai (2022)\, ‘Get Life / Love’s Work’ at the New Museum\, New York (2021) and exhibition \n***\nAm 5. SUMMARY:COMPLETE BASIC DECOR
DESCRIPTION:The artists Jan Brokof and Verena Issel invite you to their joint exhibition COMPLETE BASIC DECOR – a large joint spatial installation that focuses on dialogue and artistic overlaps. \nThe starting point of the installation are jointly selected works by the two artists\, in which their artistic positions touch and overlap. These works enter into a visual dialogue with a specially developed wall installation made of clay paper and woodcut. In a creative ping-pong game between the selected works and the expansive installation\, a complete work is created that dissolves the boundaries between individual work and spatial staging. \nThe exhibition shows a diverse interplay of materials\, techniques and perspectives and invites visitors to discover connections and contrasts.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1333991457966830/

SUMMARY:Opening of The Western Horizon by Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Gudmundsdottir is proud to present The Western Horizon\, the first solo exhibition by Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir at the gallery\, opening on January 17\, 2025. This exhibition brings together a collection of recent and new works that Gunnlaugsdóttir describes as a “still life of Western culture\,” offering an exploration of contemporary cultural narratives and the tensions that define them. \nThe exhibition features three large-scale works that are both interconnected and distinct\, each challenging perceptions of cultural symbols and their associated meanings. Using a minimalist palette of primary colors—yellow\, red\, and blue—accented with black and white\, Steinunn creates a visual clarity that amplifies the conceptual depth of her pieces. Her works invite reflection and dialogue\, dissecting the layers of Western identity and its historically complicated relationship with the rest of the globe. \nBorn in Iceland in 1983\, Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculpture\, video\, sound\, and installation. After earning her BFA from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2008\, she participated in the prestigious HWP Art Program at Ashkal Alwan in Beirut\, Lebanon (2013–2014). She was nominated as Iceland’s “Artist of the Year” in 2018 and received the Richard Serra Fund Award in 2021 for her groundbreaking contributions to sculpture.\nAt the core of Steinunn’s work lies an exploration of the human existential struggle—how individuals confront\, resist\, or surrender to the material and intangible structures shaping their existence. Her practice examines the tension between autonomy and control\, offering a poignant commentary on the human condition within societal frameworks.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1549401772426779/

SUMMARY:Closing Reception: Mary Katharine Tramontana SERIOUS PLEASURES
DESCRIPTION:Last chance to see SERIOUS PLEASURES! I am in awe of the wonderful reception — and amazing press — for my first solo show! Thank you so much! Come celebrate the closing with us!\nFinissage with reading\, cocktails\, + music📗\nWednesday\, 8 January 2025\, 7pm🍸\nJERGON\, Wrangelstr. 76\, 10997 Berlin📷\nOr by appointment.\nAs seen in:\n@artdailynews\n@fotografiska.berlin\n@eroticreview\n@tipberlin\n@siegessaeule_magazin\n@theberlinermag \n“In Mary Katharine Tramontana’s Serious Pleasures poetry is hyper-explicit—both sensual and intellectual—and in that sense closest to Pasolini’s destruction and reaffirmation of poetic sublimation. Her poetics of submission give the reader the option of experiencing subjecthood in either position.” Toni Hildebrant\, co-editor of PPPP: Pier Paolo Pasolini Philosopher\nAgainst the backdrop of a new era of sexual regression across the political spectrum\, Tramontana’s poetry and photography remind us that sex is a fundamental way of being human. Reclaiming her eroticism from her Catholic upbringing and global\, secular anti-female sexuality dogma\, her corporeal self-portraits and photography series of young bisexual men\, Boys (2023-ongoing)\, offer a queer perspective on art history’s legacy of the male artist desiring the female body. \n“The disciplining mechanisms of misogyny vary from country to country\, but one consistent tenet is that a woman’s value is determined by how hard it is to fuck her. I wanted to create a body of work purely for my gratification\,” Tramontana said. “As a poet\, I’m in a submissive position to my desire. As a photographer\, I intentionally objectify my male subjects in a power play that excites us both—they like that I am fully clothed while they’re in a state of undress—but I refer to them as my subjects. The process of our shared spontaneous attention in this moment of social media commodification—Simone Weil said\, ‘Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity’—is just as vital to me as the portrait.” \n“Serious Pleasures: Poems of Lust and Longing” is writer (New York Times\, Esquire) and artist Mary Katharine Tramontana’s debut collection of poetry\, accompanied by original photography. The collection began as a letter she wrote to seduce an incapacitating on-again off-again lover—a glamorous and mysterious Milanese neighbour. \nMary Katharine Tramontana (b. 1982\, US) is a Berlin-based artist\, poet\, and writer whose work on sexual politics and art has appeared in the New York Times\, Esquire\, Playboy\, the Guardian\, the Atlantic\, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. She’s collaborated with Reina Sofía\, the Spanish Film Archive\, WILZIG Museum\, Arsenal Institute\, and Academy of Arts Berlin\, among others. In the past year\, she’s exhibited photography in five shows in Miami\, Berlin\, and Savannah\, and given several talks on sexuality and culture. The recipient of a Frieze bursary\, she’s also worked as a sex research assistant at Kinsey Institute. This spring she’ll be in residence at Villa Lena to write her first non-fiction book co-written with Erika Lust and published in English\, French\, Italian\, Catalan\, Spanish\, and German.\nFree entry.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1129749995212501/

SUMMARY:REST
DESCRIPTION:REST\nNuria Fuster\, Tom Früchtl\, Peter Scior\nOpening: 2024\, November 29th\, 7 pm\nExhibition: 30.11.2024 – 11.01.2025 \nThe English word “rest” refers in German to what is left. In the exhibition “REST” the three artists use temporary situations in their special living spaces as an opportunity for their work. From the seemingly irrelevant\, overlooked aspects of their personal environment\, they each develop their own visual language in which the traces of change and transition are discussed.\nOn the one hand\, testamentary relics from other times are transferred to new contexts\, and on the other hand\, temporal processes themselves become the focus of attention.\nThe resulting „habitats“ are fragile intermediate stages whose vulnerability comes from a fluid reality and whose existence only represents a pause between the before and the after.\nNuria Fuster’s installations create fragile balances from found\, unmanipulated architectural relics through targeted interventions. Her photographs explore physical and chemical transformations through the confrontation of various elements.\nTom Früchtl’s pictures create traces of use and decay in complex compositions using the classic means of painting. His objects also simulate similar processes and thereby create a new artificial reality. \nPeter Scior’s images address tents as an archetype of human habitat and as a stage of transition. As a fragile and provisional architecture of a “second skin”\, they focus on the lighting situation\, which is the actual subject of his paintings. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/2060110077771032/?event_time_id=2060111577770882

SUMMARY:When pixels come to an end
DESCRIPTION:Since 2019\, Nico and the Navigators and Yui Kawaguchi have called into existence fragile yet timeless worlds of symbiosis between dance\, movement and digital projections. But soon\, on 01.01.2025\, these realities come to an abrupt end: the hardware used to enter them (Magicleap 1 glasses) falls silent as the security servers in the USA are switched off. What remains are traces that carry the work into the future\, a digital afterglow that is present but no longer visible.\nIn a two-week installation\, we bid farewell and invite reflection: How do we create digital archives that enable us to look to a future beyond ephemeral hardware? The space between man and machine becomes a mirror of our own transience. Join us in the swan song for something that has only just begun! \n🆓 Admission free\, no prior registration required\n📌 📌 Please note the opening times\n📆19.-22.12. 🕔14-18 Uhr\n📆27.-30.12. 🕔14-18 Uhr \nCredits:\nNico and the Navigators: AR_LOOPMACHINE\nArtistic Direction\, Choreography\, Animation: Yui Kawaguchi;\nDigital Development\, Concept\, Technology: Oliver Proske\nSoftware Development: Löhn Digital\nIn cooperation with: Internationales Theaterinstitut Deutschland // Mediathek für Tanz und Theater and Dachverband Tanz Deutschland\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1080090210424159/?event_time_id=1083477046752142

DESCRIPTION:28. Oktober\, 19:00\nTheater am Potsdamer Platz\, Berlin \n‘Try jumping up and doing a figure in the air\, then landing on the floor directly on your knees\, jumping up immediately and doing it again and again!
