We welcome you!\nIn this case the opening group will be:\nGuido Kohn: cello\nAxel Filip – drums\nAnna Kaluza – alto saxophone\nSue Koppel – corporeal mime\nAfter the opening group there will be put together sessions by the curator.\nDoors 19h\nConcert starts 19h30.\nMission:\nBy bringing together different practices of improvisation\, we strive to open up the often isolated situation of music scenes to each other and prevent a structural conservatism that exists in the field of improvisation. We focus on connecting and learning from all different genres and subsidiaries. Encouraging people from different musical backgrounds and contexts to interact with each other and create a curated framework for immediate composition in a live setting. Because we believe that improvisation can mean lifelong musical learning\, we want to view its ongoing practice and performance as an opportunity for the development of one’s “voice” and to create a regular offering for musicians* to keep trying themselves out in this laboratory and working community. We hope that in this way we can contribute to spreading this common respect for each other and the different approaches to improvisation in all of our respective “scenes” and enable fresh perspectives. The idea is not new\, of course\, but we want to perceive it anew. All skill levels and genres are welcome. The only rule is NO GUITARS. \nThe event was halted during lockdown and is now finally back for a once-off show by the original Berlin hosts\, Alex and Jono. We hope that someone else will continue to host it regularly afterwards. Volunteers welcome. \nThe no guitar rule is an attempt to add some interesting variety of instruments to the event. Many guitar players use it as a chance to learn a song or two on a different stringed instrument. Four stringed bass guitars are allowed. Six strings is where we draw the line. \nTHE THEME for this episode “A for Anfang”. This may give you an idea of a song to play. It carries on the legacy of old jazz mingling live sessions and DJ sets.\nWe want everyone to have fun\, dancers and musicians alike with a stage open for early Jazz\, Swing\, RnB\, and other fun styles to dance to with a focus on Balboa since we are operating with Bellmer Balboa. However\, we are a separate event and we often cross over between different sub-genres of jazz and swing. \nThe jam will be run by members of the Syncopation Society to ensure that the party flows\, allowing everyone to dance\,\nor simply sit back and enjoy the music. \n⚜ DISCLAIMER FOR MUSICIANS\nComing to the JAM CATS grants you free entrance. Just keep in mind that this is a DANCE EVENT and it implies being reactive and keeping your solos short and sweet. If you are up for it\, be prepared to be reactive on stage. If you want to play\, make it clear and talk to one of the musicians on stage to see when is a good time to step in. There’s a piano on the stage with atmospheric amplification. \n⚜ CODE OF CONDUCT:\nThe official restrictions are lifted for now\, but we still recommend doing a test before you come anyway. \nIt is our aim to create a safe\, respectful and welcoming environment for everybody. Within the Syncopation Society\, we are working to develop an anti-racist and feminist common ground. Her collaboration with Sonic Youth called “Death Valley ’69” was named one of “The 50 Most Evil Songs Ever” by Kerrang! \nGüner Künier is deploying her voice over old school and industrial drums infused with lo-fi guitar and synthesizer sounds. Her debut album also invokes a psychedelic 70s vibe\, although it’s been adapted for the present day. You’ll also find some synthwave tracks and Turkish lyrics in there. It features a great mix of genres which leads to a unique style.
