The “rock ’n’ roll animinimalist” rides the rails with a bindle stick\, a “what me worry?” tramp who haunts out of the way watering holes frequented by the roughshod holdouts against total conformity.\nKnown for their offhand musical insouciance\, ESCAPE-ISM has gathered a devout following of know nothing acolytes across the globe. DESCRIPTION:Paul Higham\n50 YEARS AN OAK TREE\nInstallation / Performance\n19.06.\nPerformance: Mi 19.06.2024\nEinlass: 19:00 Uhr / Performance: 20:00 Uhr\ndeutsch weiter unten \nA reprise of the performance that Higham was invited to produce for Michael Craig-Martin’s initial unveiling of “An Oak Tree” at Goldsmiths\, London\, 1973. Higham’s simultaneous performance generated real time synthesis of sound and video feedback manipulation as well as aeolian vocoder cut-up sequences.\n“Westerlies the Krib\,\nRocks\, Sand and Glass\,\nMariners in the Old sailing outfits\,\nScribbling and crossing this belt for detection.” \nThe performance explores layers of translation\, corruption\, compression\, encryption\, and retrieval. Accompanied in the gallery by an installation of vacuum formed plastic sculpture from ‘73 and early works on paper alongside recent digital sculptures\, and prints.\nAttendees in 1973 included: Michael Craig-Martin\, John Thompson\, Richard Wentworth\, Tim Head\, Carl Plackman\, Nick de Ville\, Steve Joule\, Bert Irvin\, Basil Beattie. \nPaul Higham (*1954 Edinburgh\, Lives New York/Pittsburgh\, USA) is considered a pioneer of early computer sculpture combining conceptual paradigms with computational technology in his art for over 30 years. In the early 70’s he studied Sculpture at Goldsmiths College of Art in London under the direct mentorship of Carl Plackman; the godfather of Brit Art. With this legacy Higham’s endeavor has remained consistent as such to propagate a new form of conceptual art. In the mid 1990’s he developed several concepts and bodies of work including ‘DataSculpture’\, ‘SpaceSampling’ and ‘AutoTecture’. These seminal ideas offered up at exhibitions\, panels and lectures at ISC Conferences and The Computer Sculpture Forum have now been widely adopted overtime. His recent series of work ‘Thought Forms’ utilizes Real Time Data Acquisition and Brain Machine Interface Technologies. His work has been shown internationally in over 100 exhibitions from China to South Africa\, Australia\, New Zealand\, India\, Turkey\, Senegal\, France\, Czech Republic\, Poland\, Finland\, Germany\, Austria\, England\, Scotland\, Wales and across the USA. He has received several prestigious awards such as the McKnight Fellowship for his VR Opera ‘Metarune Clipper’ in 1996. \nHigham is one of the first in a small group of international artists and academics who advocated the use of rapid prototyping\, cnc and digital technologies in sculpture. He first exhibited interactive VR sculpture and real world rapid prototype sculpture\, also cast in metals in 1995 as seen at the Body Builder Gallery\, Chicago. Also since ’95 he has been a member of Ars Mathematica\, Paris\, France an international organization devoted to promoting digital sculpture founded by Alexander Vitkine and Christian LaVigne. Higham will be featured in the Ars Mathematica book on the history and early pioneers of digital sculpture soon to be published in Europe. \nAs an independent Higham has held several academic teaching and visiting artist positions. Her experimental sound is rooted in neo-soul\, ethno jazz\, and psychedelic soul. A multicultural story teller\, by nature\, Kota writes her lyrics through the prism of metaphor and mythology\, often inspired by daily observations of surroundings.\nIn 2023 Kota won a Female* Producer Prize by Sony Music Entertainment Germany and Music Woman\, meanwhile releasing collaborative singles with various producers.
