He started in theatre from a young age and graduated to stand up comedy in his late 20’s. He successfully ran the Birmingham comedy club “Custard Balti”. In 2008\, Dharmander did an early “Brexit” and moved to Germany. Based in Berlin\, he has been entertaining crowds as compere and solo artist from Amman to Zurich for over 15 years. He supported Ardal O’Hanlon\, Judah Friedlander as well as Steve-O and performed with Jeff Ross. \nA comedy festival regular\, Dharmander performed at Edinburgh Fringe and Birmingham Comedy Festival in 2017 with his acclaimed one-man show “Bollywood and Birmingham to Berlin and Brexit” for the first time. This production has also been part of Edinburgh Fringe since 2018\, Utrecht International Comedy Festival 2019 and Brighton Fringe since 2019. It travels in regular intervals through European countries such as Austria\, Germany\, Poland\, the Czech Republic\, Estonia and Italy. Known for her embrace of the unconventional\, Kori’s works delve into the realms of spirituality\, mental health\, and the art of caring. \nIn an era where the term “ghosting” has become a familiar part of our vernacular\, “Estrangement – a vague sense of belonging” by Very Kori takes on added significance. It serves as a poignant exploration of the idea of making visible what has suddenly disappeared. \nJust as ghosting refers to the sudden and unexplained disappearance of a person from one’s life\, Kori’s art sheds light on the nuances of estrangement in broader contexts. Kori’s art offers a sanctuary for introspection\, prompting us to reflect on our own sense of disconnection from the world. In strong contrast with the topics of her art\, the artworks display movement\, bright colors with strong light and dark contrast\, spirals\, cut off edges – thereby bridging the gap between the tangible and intangible. Her works foster a renewed sense of connection and unity: a vague sense of belonging. \nThe main proposition of this upcoming exhibition is a 180 cm by 220 cm piece\, the artist’s largest work to date\, which she declines into an immersive performance in which the viewer is encouraged to take part. \nThe piece\, titled “Torn Apart”\, is mirrored as a fragmented print on canvas on the opposing wall. The viewer is invited to take a part of painting – as a reflection that in estrangement\, we share a collective experience of loneliness\, but also that as we estrange those around us\, we only accept one piece of them and reject the rest. This performance explores simultaneously both sides of estrangement – on both sides of the second room of the exhibition. The art piece is no longer merely the piece of art. It is the performance piece of the art itself. \nJoin Very Kori on a transformative journey through “Estrangement – a vague sense of belonging”\, where art becomes a conduit for healing and reconciliation. DESCRIPTION:Opening: Tuesday\, September 12th\, 6 – 9 pm \nDuration: September 13th – 16th\, Tuesday – Saturday 2 – 7 pm \nLocation: SomoS – Kottbusser Damm 95\, 1.0G\, 10967\, Berlin \nFree entry \nCoinciding with Berlin Art Week\, multi-disciplinary artist Benedict Yu’s solo show Enraptured conflates the spiritual and the bodily\, describing one in terms of the other\, making use of virtual reality technology\, video\, digital print\, painting\, and installation. \nAbout\nRaised in Taiwan and educated in Singapore\, Benedict Yu presents his artworks for the first time in Germany in his solo exhibition Enraptured. Inspired by the artist’s varied religious and cultural backgrounds and the liberal atmosphere of Berlin\, Enraptured symbolizes a passionate artistic quest for self-discovery. His work employs religious motives from Christianity and Buddhism\, used in ambiguous ways that seek the holy in the sensual and vice versa. \nCentral to the exhibition is the innovative use of virtual reality technology\, where Yu invites viewers into an alternate cosmic realm. Within this space\, visitors are surrounded by 27 figure drawings brought to life through VR\, a testament to Yu’s dedicated work during his residency. The pieces in this series\, titled Consummation\, were painted blindly\, merely by touch\, with the last one representing a self-portrait created on the artist’s 27th birthday. \nEnraptured also includes a dance video\, an installation piece\, over-painted digital prints\, and the results of his live painting performance Peregrination. Benedict Yu’s work in the versatile yet conceptually coherent Enraptured show encapsulates the struggles and triumphs of embracing seemingly conflicting facets of the self\, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys of self-discovery and growth. \n………………………………………………………………………………………………\nAbout Benedict Yu \nBenedict Yu is a Taiwanese Singapore-based multi-disciplinary artist and cultural entrepreneur/manager who works in virtual reality\, painting\, and installation. Yu received his diploma in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore in 2017. In 2017\, Benedict received a research award from the same institution\, which allowed him to conduct research in Lhasa\, Tibet. Yu’s projects have been presented in London\, Kyoto\, Tokyo\, Barcelona\, Rovereto\, Singapore\, and Taiwan.

The first one was made seventy thousand years ago in a cave in South Africa. The last in distant AI time (…).\nDrawing unites all people. Whether it’s doodling with crayons\, which we all tried our hand at as children\, or leaving a trace in the sand; it is the first experience that we can create something lasting out of nothing – like on a white sheet of paper – that possibly finds resonance in the environment. And we realize that nothing is not nothing\, but is Us. Our consciousness\, our creation. Drawing on paper is the mother of art. It is still free\, before the expectations of school\, of society in general\, want to dictate what art should look like. \nDrawing is the foundation of every art form. Drawing does not lie. It is direct information about the creator. The sculptor uses it to quickly capture thoughts for forms. Lines that are able to represent volume. Film ideas are captured through storyboards. The line that reproduces movement as well as narration. And it can cast light and shadow directly onto a piece of paper through tautness and contour to the painter. On the road\, in the mountains\, in the pub. Immediately. In this way\, drawing can be the freezing of an artistic idea or a sensation that the artist’s later transfer to another medium\, with more idleness and effort\, the preparation of the material\, and finds its actual purpose. But it can also be the main work\, an original on paper. \nWhether chaotic\, constructed\, representational or abstract\, political or erotic\, the work on paper opens up a universe in its simplicity. The exhibition PAPERY attempts to depict an atom of this and to give an insight into the different visual languages of the 11 artists presented. Their common ground lies not only in drawing on paper\, but also in their origins in graffiti writing\, calligraphy or mural painting. Whether post- or mid-graffiti\, possibly pre-\, graffiti crossed their biographies in different ways and shaped their lives and style. In the group exhibition PAPERY\, RETRAMP Gallery presents originals on paper created with various techniques and materials\, such as charcoal\, pencil\, ink\, oil pastels\, fineliner\, watercolour or mixed media.
